Kyle Montagna is showing the adult martial arts competition what it means to Change The Game.

Lauderhill, Aug 20, 2011: Kyle Montagna has overcome some incredible trials and tribulations to earn the success that most adult competitors are unable to achieve in their first year of competition. Kyle, like many martial artists, came from a small school in Sunrise, Florida with very little in the way of natural talent but a desire to do great things. Having started out small at local tournaments he then would be introduced to his coach and mentor, World Champion Lauren Kearney. With his coach and his dad at his side the pursuit of something bigger, a World Championship title of his own began.

Of course it wouldn’t take long before the first of many road blocks would challenge Kyle and set him back. However, his determination and perseverance would not let a serious foot injury stop him from pursuing his dreams. Kyle got back on the mat, with his foot taped up and would spend the better part of three years gaining recognition and higher placement at World and International events. In his last year as a junior competitor Kyle was one of the most dominant and winning competitors under the age of seventeen. He was known for his traditional forms and weapons routines and was quickly influencing younger competitors to challenge their bodies to add exciting movements into their traditional routines.

As an adult, much like transitioning from College Football to the Professionals, everything gets harder. The competitors are bigger, faster and stronger. For a junior to transition to the adult competition often it takes a year to find your grove and once again, if at all, be successful. Yet, Montagna, who was not the most naturally talented when he first started out, already knew how to make such a hard transition. It was the trials and tribulations he had to overcome early in his career that he along with his father, his personal trainer, knew how to overcome faster than most. It wasn’t long after Kyle got into the division he had some success over top name competitors. But the real satisfaction came at a National event in Myrtle Beach, SC where he won his first Grand Championship title.

Having come so far from just a young competitor starting out with so many things working against him at thirteen, to being one of the top adult competitors nearly five years later was something truly amazing. Kyle’s story is one that proves if you Work Hard, Dream Big, you too can Change The Game!

After two years of struggle, Connor Griffith wins big at largest international Martial Arts Competition.

Athens, July 20, 2011: For nearly two years Connor Griffith, now fifteen, has been competing on the North American Sport Karate Association, NASKA, circuit with bumps in the road every step of the way. Connor competes in a number of divisions with his weapon of choice the bo staff. However, unlike most other competitors, Griffith, is his toughest competitor. While the competitors in his division are without question some of the most talented athletes in the world at their craft, it has been said that Griffith is one that will be hard to beat. That is of course when he is able to complete his routine without an mishap.

Griffith is an exceptional competitor. In fact, he looks at competition much different than most. While others would do just enough to be rated the top contender, Griffith refuses to hold back when he steps in the ring. His routine is loaded with some of the most difficult moves on the circuit he competes in and many of them are back to back. It’s no wonder sometimes things go wrong and the house of cards comes tumbling down. Despite the adversity, Griffith always goes home to train just as hard and in most cases harder for the next event even when his success is unrealized. In 2010 Griffith was asked to be a part of the Change The Game team of other leading youth competitors. His coach Lauren Kearney says “Connor is one of the hardest working individuals on the circuit. Others would have given up if dealt some of the unfortunate circumstances Connor has had to go through, but not Connor. He is the real definition of determination. He knows what he wants and won’t stop till he gets there and that’s what I loved about brining him on as part of the team.”

On July 2-3, 2011 Connor attended the world’s largest event for sport karate, the US Open. While many are intimidated by the sheer size of the event with over 42 countries present and competing. Griffith met the challenge head on. It was on this weekend that the hard work and stars aligned. Completing his routine flawless in his division, Connor was then able to hit his routine again in the Grand Championship competition, a competition that faces all the youth boy winners of the divisions against each other. But Connor wasn’t done yet. He than went on to face his teammate and the winner of the girls grand championship, Micayla Johnson. Again, he was able to flawless execute his routine being only the second person in 2011 to defeat Johnson. This accomplishment also afforded him the opportunity to compete as the “Wild Card” representative on the most prestigious and only Internationally broadcasted tournament in the world for Sport Karate. Connor again flawless executed his routine for an audience of thousands from all around the world. Connor finished the weekend with an Overall Weapons Grand Championship title, his peers and competitors respect and the ability to teach all in attendance an important and valuable lesson. For those we were able to witness such success for someone who has had more than their share of struggles it was truly a story of determination prevailing and for Connor it was more than well deserved.

Sanctioned by the North American Sport Karate Association (NASKA) The US Open also hosts a televised event, the ISKA World Competition, featuring the world’s premier sport karate competitors.Micayla Johnson is member of Team Change The Game and is coached by 10 time ISKA World Champion Lauren Kearney. In 2010 Johnson won her first ISKA World Title and was featured competitor in the events rebroadcast on ESPN2. Since last July, Johnson has won some of the most prestigious events in the World with her weapons routine. Johnson’s focus, apart from playing Varsity Lacrosse and maintaining honor roll while attending Boca Raton High School as a student of STEM program, has been to defend her World Title at the ISKA this July.

In order for Johnson to defend her title she would have to face three other competitors including her teammate Connor Griffith in the ISKA World Martial Arts competition. Johnson’s experience on the ISKA stage and her extraordinary weapons manipulations using the kama, set her apart by the smallest of margins over her Teammate and the other two competitors. Johnson was awarded the ISKA World Weapons title for the second year in a row. Along with being broadcasted on ESPN2 July 22 at 11:30 PM and July 23, 12:00 AM, this year’s event was live on the internet worldwide on ESPN3. Tori Andreozzi, was once the future of the sport. She had everything going for her including the support and work ethic to become something truly unique. Unfortunately, Tori was hit by a drunk driver in a hit-and-run accident while on her way home from school. The events from that day forever changed the martial arts industry losing not only a student, friend, and the potential future but leaving us wondering if her dreams would ever be realized. Read about Tori’s Story and sign up for the FREE seminar April 8, 2011 at 2pm hosted at the Ocean State Grand Nationals.

Hello and welcome to the official Change The Game website. My name is Lauren Kearney I’m the director of Change The Game (CTG). Two years ago I had this idea of how to educate and motivate a variety of audiences while utilizing martial arts performers. After two years of developing Change The Game is finally a reality.

We specialize in martial arts performance and instruction. Change The Game harbors some of the World’s top talented martial arts in Forms, Weapons and Sparring. Through our performances and instructional seminars we want to inspire audiences to challenge the limits of their potential and exceed what ever boundaries they believe will hold them back in martial arts as well as in life.

We have a lot of great things in store for 2011. Please be sure to continue to browse through the site and check back for updates.

<g:plusone href='http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ctgprofessional.com%2F%3Fp%3D387' size='medium'></g:plusone>
